Our goal at BuyerRecommended is to help ecommerce companies find highly qualified vendors for their projects.  Qualifications are based on a vendor’s relevant work experience and how well they address the needs of their clients.  Prospective buyers of services rely heavily on reviews, ratings and references of a vendor’s customers.  Ratings and reviews that are relevant, descriptive, and trustworthy are therefore critical in making BuyerRecommended a valuable resource to you and others in the industry.

Review Instructions

Our review form consists of 6 fields that can be categorized into two groups as follows:

1) Project Description

  • Free form text field that accepts between 250 and 1,500 characters
  • Project completion month/year (or checkbox, where not yet complete)
  • Project size – dropdown menu of range in US$

2) Vendor Recommendation

  • Free form text field that accepts between 250 and 1,500 characters
  • Overall satisfaction rating from 1 – 5 stars
  • Checkbox indicating whether reviewer is willing to provide a reference for the vendor

When completing a review form, please be as accurate as possible with the project date and size information.  If your project is not yet complete, we may contact you in the future to update the project completion information.

For the project description, please provide as much relevant information as possible about the type and scope of the project.  For example, a description of an ecommerce site development project might include: technology platforms, programming languages, rough number of SKUs, and whether the work was an upgrade or a completely new build.  For design listings, you should include the type of products you are selling on your ecommerce site.

For the vendor recommendation, please indicate why you would or would not recommend this vendor to others based on your experience working with them.  Please address the full range of factors that informed your recommendation including: technical skills, professionalism, responsiveness, integrity, and ability/willingness to tackle difficult challenges.

When writing your project descriptions and vendor recommendations please focus on:

  • Your own experience: Write only about your own experience and the facts surrounding that experience. Avoid any broad generalizations.
  • Balance and objectivity: Few experiences are 100% positive or 100% negative. Even if you had a great experience, think about areas of potential improvements. If your experience was negative, stick to the facts and try to identify areas of strength.
  • Relevance: Limit the review to information that would be helpful to prospective buyers.
  • Respect: When providing negative feedback, remain respectful and provide criticism in a constructive format. Most vendors will try to learn from constructive criticism.

Then rate your overall satisfaction using the 5-star rating where:

  • 1 star = very dissatisfied (would never recommend)
  • 2 stars = somewhat dissatisfied (not likely to recommend)
  • 3 stars = neutral (might recommend with some caveats for the prospective buyer)
  • 4 stars = satisfied (would likely recommend)
  • 5 stars = very satisfied (would strongly recommend)

Lastly, please indicate via the check box, whether you would be willing to be a reference for this vendor.  A check in this box indicates that you are open to connecting with prospective buyers to share your experience of the vendor whether you provided a positive or negative review.

Incentivized Reviews

If you receive a free or discounted service from a business in exchange for posting a review:

  • You must clearly and conspicuously disclose that fact by including language at the beginning your vendor endorsement indicating “As an incentive for this review, the vendor provided this service for free (or at a discount).” You may indicate that the review nonetheless reflects your honest opinion.
  • The business may neither write your review nor direct its content such as requiring that the review be positive.
  • Your review must reflect your honest opinion.

We do not permit reviews that are posted in exchange for compensation of any other kind.

Review Process

BuyeRecommended screens all reviews before publication for content that may violate our Terms of Use, and for edits that might make the review more readable or clarify ambiguities.   If we believe a review requires editing, we may contact you to ask that you either edit the review or approve our proposed edits.  Failure to respond to our outreach within a reasonable amount of time, determined by BuyeRecommended at its sole discretion, will be considered the same as your consent to accept our edits for publication.

To enhance the value of reviewer feedback, BuyeRecommended scores each of the reviews on both project relevance to the listing category and on quality of the vendor endorsement whether positive or negative.  Review scores are used, along with other factors, as a primary determinant of the total listing score which impacts the order in which listings are presented, i.e. “ranking”.  The highest scores will be awarded to reviews that meet the following criteria:

  • Project description is highly relevant to listing category
  • Project size aligns with the listing’s average project size
  • Project is recent (scores degrade over time)
  • Overall star rating is high
  • Vendor endorsement supports the high star rating with relevant details
  • Reviewer agrees to serve as a reference for the vendor

Inappropriate Reviews

Vendors and other registered users may use the Flag feature to report an inappropriate review. We will then check the review for violations of these guidelines or BuyerRecommended’s Terms of Use.

Reviews may be removed for any of the following reasons:

  • Inappropriate content: Don’t post reviews that contain or link to unlawful content, content that violates our Terms of Use, or infringes on privacy.
  • Conflict of interest: Reviews are only valuable when they are honest and unbiased. For example, don’t post reviews about your own business, a competitor, or your current/former employer.
  • Misrepresentation: Don’t misrepresent your identity or affiliation with the company being reviewed, such as submitting a review on behalf of a client.
  • Others’ experience: Don’t submit reviews that do not reflect experiences other than your own.
  • Accuracy: Make sure your review is factually correct. Don’t exaggerate or misrepresent your experience. We don’t take sides when it comes to factual disputes, so we expect you to stand behind your review.
  • Off-topic reviews: Reviews are not a forum for personal rants or crusades, nor are they meant to be a forum for general political or social commentary. Stick to the facts about your experience.
  • Outdated reviews: Reviews should be from projects completed within the past five years, or those currently in-progress.

Note, the BuyeRecommended Website and Services provide a forum for users to share both positive and negative experiences and opinions.  We do not arbitrate disputes.  We will not remove reviews just because they are negative, and absent highly unusual circumstances, determined at our sole discretion, will err on the side of transparency and comply with our policy to leave reviews published.  As a balance to this “policy,” vendors and other registered users may add comments to any listing to discuss reviews and other relevant topics.

Reviewers are not permitted to edit their reviews once they are published, except to make minor corrections, such as grammar, spelling or punctuation.  The reviewer should notify BuyeRecommended of these corrections as soon as possible after publication. We reserve final discretion over any editorial corrections. If the status of the engagement changes after the review is published, the reviewer may request that the review be updated accordingly.  Since a reviewer’s experience with a vendor may change over the course of a project, we recommend that prospective reviewers not submit a review of a project until it is complete.

BuyeRecommended is not responsible for any negative reviews of a company nor is BuyeRecommended responsible for any consequences of such reviews and/or rankings, including but not limited to loss of business or loss of goodwill.
